Extensive research has already been done by Seoirse on the place-names of Inishowen as well as All Saints, Taughboyne, Raphoe and Stranorlar parishes. Only those of Inishowen have been published.
Slide shows and talks were successfully conducted by Seoirse in Moville, Malin Head, Carndonagh, Buncrana, Lifford and Ballybofey over the years.
PowerPoint presentations of these talks are currently being compiled from the original slides and will soon be made available to the public as the demand arises.
The Townlands of Templemore, Derry
An Teampall Mór Doire
A forgotten part of Inishowen. The eighteen townlands in the northern portion of the parish of Templemore once formed a key location in the south east. It is now the part of Co. Derry that lies on the western shore of the Foyle hosting the walled city of Derry-Londonderry. Beneath the urban streets of Rosemount, Creggan, Shantallow and The Bogside are traces of the land that the ancient Inishowen farming community named in their own special way: a fascinating matrix of Gaelic names now forgotten and no longer in use. This Power Point lecture is a survey of these townland names reassembled here in their original forms and connotations. Step on board the “Tardis” and disembark into An Teampall Mór Doire. The year is 1610.
The talk was given in the Cultúrlann in Derry in 2015.
